Peggy Akin has developed a three-year mathematics program for students in grades 7-12. It is called Building Math Power. People well acquainted with Montessori principles say that the program is very Montessori-like. As a matter of fact, in one 6-12 private school in Florida, the two teachers most comfortable with the program are Montessor-trained teachers. They seem to intuitively understand its instructional approach. I know that most Montessori schools do not go beyond the 8th grade; however, I have heard that some schools are beginning to extend into the higher grades. I am curious about whether there would be any interest in a mathematics program that is consistent with the Montessori philosophy. If so, I would be happy to send you some literature about Building Math Power.
